Sand Everywhere! Orlando City Breaks Ground on New Downtown Stadium

An official groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Orlando City Soccer Club’s new stadium, and kicked-off by simulating a future game day experience. The stadium is being designed and constructed by Populous, Barton Malow, and ICON Venue Group. The state of the art venue will be home to the City beginning in the 2016 season.

Daytona Rising Reaches Halfway Point

Officials from Daytona International Speedway, along with community leaders, construction crews, fans and state officials, gathered in the middle of the ongoing Daytona Rising project to celebrate the halfway point of a 30-month effort to remake the 55-year-old facility.

Construction to Begin Sept. 25 on New Wings Arena, Entertainment District

The groundbreaking to celebrate the $650 million Detroit Red Wings arena and entertainment district will take place on September 25. Chris Ilitch, president and CEO of Ilitch Holdings Inc. said the groundbreaking will include various dignitaries and will be an elaborate ceremony, rather than the traditional shovel-in-the-ground photo op.

Construction is on schedule for the new Heritage High School in Lynchburg, Virginia. Fifty eight percent of the $63.5 million budget is being spent on local contractors.

Children's Hospital's New Tower to Focus More on Critical Care

The new DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan patient tower is slated to begin construction in March and open at the end of 2016, with the entire project completed by 2017. Due to the growing number of children who need neonatal and pediatric intensive care, the hospital is expected to be more of a critical care facility than originally planned.

Construction management services will be provided by Barton Malow Company and Detroit-based Brinker Group.

The renovation of Daytona International Speedway (DIS), known as Daytona Rising, has more than 700 workers on site who are helping to boost the local economy. Businesses, restaurants, and hotels along the International Speedway Boulevard are benefitting during a time that generally slows down at the end of summer.

$250 Million Project at Bay County's Karn-Weadock Complex to be Complete by April

A $250 million technology upgrade that will reduce sulfur dioxide emissions at Consumers Energy's Karn-Weadock Generating Complex in Bay County's Hampton Township is scheduled to by completed by April. The spray dry absorber project started more than four years ago and is expected to reduce emissions by 95 percent. Barton Malow and Sterling Heights-based Conti Electric are the contractors involved in the project.

$450 Million Detroit Red Wings Arena Plan Focused on Michigan, Detroit Sourcing

Michigan and Detroit-area contractors filled Motor City Casino's Sound Board Theater on September 9 to learn more about opportunities on construction of the Detroit Events Center, future home to the Detroit Red Wings. The Ilitch family's Olympia Development, and Barton Malow-Hunt-White-as the lead contractor-aims to hire 30 percent Detroit-based businesses with 51 percent Detroit-based worker participation. The Michigan-wide Contractor and Supplier Summit provided a project overview and networking opportunities.
