The Shirley Clements Mewborn Field - Georgia Institute of Technology

The Shirley Clements Mewborn Field is a state-of-the-art NCAA women’s softball facility capable of hosting Regional and Super Regional tournaments. The development of this complex is on the site of a surface parking lot bounded by Fowler Street, Ninth Street and Eighth Street in Atlanta on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Barton Malow provided all services necessary to redevelop an existing parking lot site into a new sports complex, including construction of a new playing field (lights, dugouts, field, fencing, warm up areas), new stadium (press box, batting tunnel and extensive utilities relocation, PA facilities, roof, bleachers, restrooms and concessions), and landscaping for the entire complex site.

This project incorporated numerous sustainable features including a 96% construction waste recycle rate. As a result, it is on track to achieve LEED Silver Certification.

The stadium was also completed with zero lost-time injuries.
