Barton Malow, in joint venture with Mascaro Construction, provided construction services for the 589,000-square-foot, 275-bed facility. The first three levels of the seven-story building is devoted to diagnostics and treatment departments. Mechanical equipment is located on the fourth floor to provide a central location to distribute HVAC, and the remaining upper floors serve as the inpatient tower.
The two-story main lobby provides admission and registration areas, with a stairway to the second floor. To maximize inpatient and outpatient care, the imaging department, cardiology, phlebotomy, outpatient testing, outpatient rehabilitation, and pediatrics are located on the first level. The emergency department and the 26,090-square-foot Schwab Family Cancer Center are also located on the first level, but have separate dedicated entrances.
The second level features a cafeteria/food court overlooking the main lobby and it is adjacent to an auditorium used for internal and community events. Other departments located on this level include administration, laboratory, pharmacy, mental health, and central sterile. The third level contains respiratory therapy, interventional imaging, ICU, CVU, and surgery. The fifth level has two high level care units, one acute care unit, and the dialysis unit. Level six features orthopedic acute care beds, inpatient rehab, and LDR/obstetrics suites. Inpatient acute care beds are located on the seventh level.
The Project consolidates two operating hospital campuses: Memorial Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital into one campus facility. The site slopes rather steeply from the lower east side to the upper west side. The main entry is on the lower level on the northeast facade.
The site for the parking garage was cut from a steep slope on the construction site. The garage had to be completed in a timely manner to provide storage/laydown area and parking for up to 600 workers at the larger projects. Access to two existing office buildings were maintained during all construction.
The new parking garage is a precast concrete structure for 950 cars. It has 306,000 square feet on 4 levels (3 elevated) and is serviced by 2 elevators.
