Crittenton
Hospital
Medical Center
Rochester, Michigan
At
the Crittenton Hospital job site, construction
has been on the fast track since the $86-million
project was awarded to Barton Malow in early
2002. Estimators immediately began validating
the overall project budget, and the field team
moved onto the site only one month later to
begin moving five departments to allow for
major construction, which involves over 200,000
square feet of new construction, renovations
and expansions. This project will be completed
in August 2006.
New
construction includes the relocation of the
main entrance, a parking
deck, administrative
departments, surgery support, clinical labs,
special diagnostics, pre-admission testing
and an expanded cardiac rehabilitation department.
Surgery renovations will double the operating
room capacity. A new cardiac critical care
wing
will be adjacent to two new open-heart operating
rooms. These specialized ORs are a joint venture
with the University of Michigan Health System.
The
entire first and second floors of the hospital
are undergoing renovations and include emergency,
diagnostic imaging, women and children’s
unit, and dietary, among other departments. The
project also includes an in-place renovation
and expansion of the existing Emergency Department
by approximately 55%, and the addition of a new
canopy over the entrance. The new canopy was
added to accommodate the newer and larger ambulance
vans that the shorter 1960’s structure
could no longer hold.
