Barton Malow Honored with Corporate Citizenship Award
Southfield, MI – Barton Malow is honored to receive the 2014 Corporate Citizenship award from the Builders Association. This award recognizes corporations for their philanthropic commitment to bettering communities in which their employees work. Barton Malow will accept the award at the annual BuildersConnect event on December 4th in Chicago.
In 1954, the Barton Malow Foundation was established, and for over 60 years Barton Malow has donated 5% of annual profits to charities. Aligned with Barton Malow Company’s core purpose, the Foundation’s goal is to build people, projects and communities. For 90 years, Barton Malow Company leaders have all shared one common goal–an extraordinary dedication to community service.
In 2014, the Foundation was restructured as a 501(C)(3), the Foundation also hosted its first Building Communities Golf Classic, raising almost $250,000 with the generous support of our partners, subcontractors and suppliers.
At the end of 2014, the Foundation rolled out the Build Your Community campaign in which employees may contribute to the Foundation through direct payroll deductions. Their contributions will be matched dollar-for-dollar along with the ability for employees to support the organizations for which they are most passionate. In addition to our financial contributions, our employees donate their service, time and earnings as compassionate community members where they work, live and play. Our employees also participate in our annual Community Day where employees across the company serve organizations across the country.
“We’re so proud to have employees who share a desire–and make it a priority–to serve non-profit organizations, with many doing so in leadership positions,” says Doug Maibach, Vice Chairman. “As an organization, we work hard to build lives. Our employees support educational institutions as instructors, fund-raisers and as trustees. We have employees who volunteer to lead apprenticeship programs, conduct career fairs, speak to advance careers in construction, lead project tours for youth organizations, serve as scout leaders, coach youth sporting groups, assist the elderly and perform as fire fighters.”
