Barton Malow FIATECH Award Winner

Baltimore, MD – April 13, 2010 – FIATECH recognized and honored Barton Malow Company and eight other organizations/individuals for their extraordinary work in developing and establishing innovative engineering and construction technologies at the annual CETI Award Gala on March 31 in Austin, Texas. This is the fifth annual CETI Award, which is given to organizations that have implemented new and emerging technologies.

Barton Malow was recognized for its use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Field Software (including tablet PCs) on the Maryland General Hospital Central Care Expansion project, and transferring these tools to Facilities Management for their continued use. The Central Care Expansion project was a multi-phase addition and renovation including over 75,000 square feet of newly fit-out spaces, and over 5,000 square feet of renovation. Key individuals from Barton Malow, Tekla, Motion Computing, and Vela Systems presented an overview of the project approach and benefits at the Gala describing the connection of BIM to Commissioning to handover to Facilities Management. With the use of the tablet PC and associated BIM database, Maryland General Hospital’s Facilities Management staff is now able to easily access all information associated with each piece of equipment in the field, increasing staff productivity while eliminating increased operating costs due to inefficient or incomplete maintenance. The technology-driven solution provided by Barton Malow will continue to improve operational maintenance workflow at Maryland General Hospital for years to come.
