Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum Recognized for Outstanding Construction

Broad Art MuseumSouthfield, MI ––The Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum has been recognized for it’s outstanding construction with three construction industry awards. The museum has been awarded this year’s AGC Build America Merit Award in the Construction Management New category, AGC Michigan Build Michigan Award, and the Washtenaw Contractors Association Pyramid Award for Best Project Team - Projects over $25 Million.

Barton Malow served as the construction manager for the iconic art museum designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, known for the “unbuildable” building. Located at Michigan State University, the new Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum pushes architectural boundaries and challenges conventional construction. Constructed of sloped steel and concrete with a pleated metal and glass exterior, carefully piecing together dynamic dimensions and non-traditional materials challenged the team from the very beginning. Atypical building techniques were a part of everyday construction.

With extreme expectations of quality, the highest levels of communication and craftsmanship were required to overcome these challenges. The successful outcome was truly a team effort.
