Karmanos-Crittenton Caner Center Breaks Ground in Rochester Hills, MI

Southfield, MI – October 8, 2008 — Barton Malow Company, along with Crittenton Hospital Medical Center and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center broke ground Tuesday, September 22, for the new Karmanos-Crittenton Cancer Center in Rochester Hills, MI. The 30,000-square-foot facility, dedicated to Vivian V. Stolaruk, is being built on a three-acre site.

Exterior cancer center features include a main entry with a covered drive-through canopy, a double-height glazed entry “beacon,” a healing garden within view of the infusion center and stone cladding. The interior of the cancer center will contain a library, administrative area, oncology clinic, infusion center, diagnostic imaging, radiation oncology, receiving area, blood draw lab and waiting areas.

As part of the groundbreaking ceremony community leaders and guests signed a steel I-beam. This will be set in place when the steel frame is erected and become a permanent part and symbol of the foundation for the new cancer center. The facility is slated for completion fall 2009.
John C. Ruckdeschel, M.D., Karmanos Cancer Center president and chief executive officer, thanked Barton Malow and others “who will transform this site into a first-rate community cancer center for comprehensive care.” He added that residents of Rochester, Rochester Hills and other nearby communities will have quality care close to home.

"Crittenton knows how important it is for our patients to have access to top medical specialists right in their community," said Lynn Orfgen, president and chief executive officer, Crittenton Hospital Medical Center. "This partnership with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center to develop a cutting-edge outpatient cancer center in Rochester Hills is a natural extension of this philosophy."
