Joint School for Nanoscience and Nanoengineering Exceeds Local and Minority Participation Goals at Project Milestone
Greensboro, NC – October 20, 2010 — Gateway University Research Park’s Executive Director John Merrill set a goal of 25% minority participation for the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN). This exceeds the state’s standard minimum of 10%. So far, the joint venture of Barton Malow Company, Samet Corporation and SRS, Inc. (BMSS), the team providing construction services on the project, has surpassed that goal by achieving 27.58% minority participation.
The breakdown is as follows:
- Women Owned Businesses: 12.39%
- African-American Owned Businesses: 12.43%
- Hispanic Owned Businesses: 2.76%
Local businesses have also benefitted. Approximately 45 firms (95.74%) providing services on this project are from the Triad region.
BMSS also commemorated the last piece of steel being placed on top of the building by hosting a Topping Out party. This traditional celebration honors the many hours of hard work put in by the construction team and ushers the project into its next phases.
