The New Macon Arena

Project Description

Macon-BibbCounty (the “Owner”) intends to construct a new, modern civic arena to replace the existing Macon Coliseum. This state-of-the-art multipurpose facility will serve as a cornerstone of the County’s cultural, recreational, and economic development, delivering a premium fan experience while accommodating a wide variety of sports and entertainment programming. The new arena will be located at 200 Coliseum Drive, Macon, Georgia 31217, on the current Macon Coliseum site. Construction will occur on the Coliseum’s existing surface parking areas, and the project will be phased to maintain ongoing operations of the existing facility throughout the duration of construction. The project is anticipated to exceed 230,000 square feet and will include a seating bowl capacity of approximately 8,500 in an end-stage, 180-degree concert configuration, with flexibility to reconfigure for sports and other entertainment events. Premium seating—comprised of luxury suites, club suites, and loge boxes—will be provided in addition to the bowl capacity. The facility will incorporate modern fan amenities, including clubs, concessions, restrooms, and integrated technologies, along with back-of-house and support spaces consistent with a state-of-the-art civic arena. An approximately 35,000-square-foot flex hall will be attached to provide ancillary program space, including capacity for an additional ice sheet, tradeshows, conferences, and various high school sporting events. A 300-space structured VIP parking garage will be attached to the arena, with a separate standalone structured parking facility of approximately 500 spaces also under consideration. The project will also include site improvements such as parking lot and drive lane reconfiguration, paving, and hardscape enhancements designed to complement and support the arena development.

Events

Procurement: Understanding Process

  1. Outreach Event – Vendors who attend the Outreach Event have the opportunity to meet the Barton Malow team, learn more about the project and connect with potential partners.
  2. Register + Pre-qualify – All vendors interested in bidding on the project must both Register and Pre-qualify. Vendors must register for each project they are interested in bidding.  Vendors pre-qualify their business only once – this step is not required for every project.
  3. Invitation to Bid – Registered and pre-qualified vendors will receive an invitation to bid on the project. This will be sent via email using the Barton Malow online bidding tool, BuildingConnected.
  4. Pre-bid Meeting – Invited bidders have the opportunity to attend a pre-bid meeting where they may ask further questions about the project, working with Barton Malow and the scope of work they have been invited to bid on.
  5. Bid Day – This is the day all bidders submit their bids for review. Bids must be submitted according to the process and procedures outlined in the materials received with the invitation to bid.
  6. Bid Evaluation – Bids received will be reviewed based on the project’s evaluation criteria.  Bids are evaluated by the community engagement team, construction project team, the owner/client and a neutral compliance party (as applicable).
