Barton Malow

Richardson Stadium Renovation and Expansion

Project Description

The upcoming expansion of UNC Charlotte’s Richardson Stadium will include major upgrades with the construction of a new west stadium tower.  This project, designed to enhance the stadium’s fan experience and boost revenue, will provide a modern and elevated suite offering that overlooks the field.  The west stadium tower will feature premium seating options such as luxury suites, club seats, and other VIP viewing experiences.  These suites are designed to offer exclusive amenities, including private catered events, improved views of the game, enhanced comfort, and year-around dining.

In addition to the stadium tower, the project will also include sports lighting upgrades, infrastructure and code upgrades, as well as additional concourse level restrooms and concessions.  The project aims to increase fan engagement and contribute to the overall atmosphere at Charlotte 49ers football games. The expansion is part of a broader effort by the University to increase the stadium’s seating capacity and modernize its facilities.  The west stadium tower will be a focal point in improving both the fan experience and the University’s ability to host high profile events.  Construction is expected to begin in late 2025, with the project expected to be completed ahead of the 2027 football season.

Procurement: Understanding Process

  1. Search for Bidders – Project teams review internet databases, owner recommendations, and community partner lists for vendors who match upcoming bid packages.
  2. Outreach Event – Vendors who attend the Outreach Event have the opportunity to meet the Barton Malow team, learn more about the project, and connect with potential partners.
  3. Register – All vendors interested in bidding on the project must register for each project they are interested in bidding.
  4. Invitation to Bid – Registered and pre-qualified vendors will receive an invitation to bid on the project.
  5. Pre-bid Meeting – Invited bidders have the opportunity to attend a pre-bid meeting where they may ask further questions about the project, working with Barton Malow, and the scope of work they have been invited to bid on.
  6. Bid Day – This is the day all bidders submit their bids for review. Bids must be submitted according to the process and procedures outlined in the materials received with the invitation to bid.
  7. Bid Evaluation – Bids received will be reviewed based on the project’s evaluation criteria.  Bids are evaluated by the community engagement team, construction project team, the owner/client, and a neutral compliance party (as applicable).
  8. Pre-qualify – Vendors pre-qualify their business only once – this step is not required for every project.
