Barton Malow UVA Street, Utilities Infrastructure Project Earns ENR Safety Honor

Barton Malow’s University of Virginia Brandon Avenue Green Street + Utilities Infrastructure project has been honored with a 2020 Excellence in Safety Award of Merit from Engineering News-Record magazine. Over the course of 130,000 hours worked on this project, there wasn’t one recordable incident and there was zero lost time.

More than 40 projects were submitted in the MidAtlantic region, and winners were selected by a panel of safety experts. Winners will be formally awarded as part of ENR’s 2020 Best Projects event next month.

The Brandon Avenue Green Street + Utilities Infrastructure project, which also earned an ENR Best Projects Award in the MidAtlantic region for Landscape/Urban Development, consisted of site development and adding new utilities, roads, sidewalks, and bio-retention medians. The Green Street and adjacent park spaces will link significant circulation corridors, providing a transition between historical and contemporary landscapes and character zones.
