Project Manager Mecah Mochoge’s construction journey began in the military, where she operated heavy equipment on the civil side for the Army Corps of Engineers. After transitioning out, she earned her degree in Construction Systems Management from The Ohio State University.
Since then, Mecah has managed fast-paced commercial renovations, supported data center projects, and currently works with Barton Malow’s K-12 Education market.

What is your role at Barton Malow and what does your day-to-day look like?
My role at Barton Malow is a Project Manager. In this position, I engage daily with our subcontractors on site, ensuring that everything is running smoothly and according to plan. My responsibilities also include coordinating Potential Change Orders (PCOs) and processing Change Order Requests (CORs). Additionally, I am currently mentoring and training my Project Engineer on the various processes and procedures related to change management.
How did you choose a career in construction?
I took a few career aptitude tests in high school, and they all said I would like and do well in engineering.
What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on and why?
The most interesting project I have worked on is the new Hilton Hotel in downtown Columbus. It was the largest building constructed in Columbus in over 30 years. It is also the largest hotel in the state of Ohio.

What stood out to you about Barton Malow compared to other opportunities?
Honestly, Barton Malow Project Executive Adrienne Sraver. I had met with about four other companies before meeting with her. She invited me to come to an eggnog tasting they were having at the office, and everyone was so friendly when I came in. I had the best feeling in that office than I had had anywhere else.
If you could pick any other team/department to be on at Barton Malow outside of your current team, what would you pick and why?
I wouldn’t change my team for any other team or project. But if I changed departments, I would love to be in Community Engagement.
What’s the most interesting part of your job?
Solving problems with our Barton Malow team, subcontractors, and partners.


Prior to getting into construction, what experience do you feel prepared you the most for your current role at Barton Malow?
I believe my fast-paced commercial renovations have helped me most with the current projects I have worked on with Barton Malow.
Are you involved with any professional or community organizations?
I am a part of ACE mentoring, The Ohio State University’s Construction Systems Management (CSM) Industry Advisory Council, and the Builders Exchange (BX) Young Professionals.
