Jordan Grimm is a Senior Operational Support Manager at Barton Malow. He is based out of Southfield, MI and supports Mission Critical projects nationwide. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. After serving in the United States Navy and growing up around his family’s sheet metal contracting business, a career in construction was a natural progression of his skills and passion. Drawn by Barton Malow’s longevity and culture, Jordan joined to help build and grow the Mission Critical team—an exciting journey he’s continued to shape over the past two years.
What is your role at Barton Malow and what does your day-to-day look like?
Our team is very diverse in day-to-day operations. We can handle everything from scheduling creation to contract negotiation and buyouts.
How did you end up choosing a career in construction?
As a kid, my family owned a sheet metal contracting business. Once I got out of the Navy, it seemed to be a natural progression of my education and passion.
What makes working on Mission Critical projects unique compared to other types of construction?
The pace! It’s never fast enough or good enough until you’re done. Then it was faster and better than the client thought it would be.
What personal skills or traits do you rely on most when working in Mission Critical construction, and how have they helped you succeed?
Leadership and soft skills are far and away the most important. By focusing on cross-functional collaboration, we can align all the parties to a common goal.
What is the most interesting part of your job?
We get to look at projects from coast to coast and across multiple clients. This allows for a diverse perspective of both personalities and industry standards across the regions.

If you weren’t in your current role, what would you be doing and why?
If I could pick another team to be on at Barton Malow, I’d pick Self-Perform. Being the ones to build something instead of managing subcontracts would be a great change of pace. Otherwise, I’d like to be a professional hunting/fishing guide. My passion for the outdoors has only grown as the years progress. Spending more time in nature would be ideal!
Prior to getting into construction, what experience do you feel prepared you the most for your current role at Barton Malow?
My time in the United States Navy prepared me for a career in construction more than I thought it would. The pace, the hours, and the commitment are all things that are needed in both realms.
Are you involved with any professional or community organizations?
I am generally involved professionally through many associations and speaking engagements across the U.S. I was recently speaking as a member of a panel at the Advancing Data Center Construction conference in Washington D.C.
