In the heart of the Motor City, our engine grows. The success of our community and the people in it is what drives us to build new and innovative projects. Each new mission that Barton Malow takes on south of 8 Mile is another opportunity for us to showcase how our team makes an impact in a city we call home, Detroit.

Digs in The D

Though we’re headquartered in nearby Southfield, MI, Detroit has been our home in many ways. It’s the city where Barton Malow got started in 1924, and we’ve been working on projects in it ever since. Nestled into an office on Library Street, we at Barton Malow are located near two new exciting projects that reflect the resilience of the city: the Bedrock + Shinola Hotel and the Hudson’s site redevelopment project. “Projects like this are what we live for,” says Ryan Maibach, Barton Malow CEO. By harnessing the talent and determination of Detroit, we’re building a network of tenacity meant to make an impact for years to come.

Keeping It Local

“Large-scale projects like these provide interest and opportunity to introduce people to construction as a career; it also provides an opportunity to help grow local businesses,” believes Ryan. It’s one thing to build a new home in city, but it’s another to use that home to make a difference. Hiring local has been a long-standing aim of our company. We want to make our community shine even more than it already is, which is why we hold outreach and hiring events in Detroit to ensure that a majority of team members come for the areas we build. This has especially been the case in our most recent Detroit builds, where Barton Malow not only aims to hire local, but improve the landscape for businesses. For us, keeping it local is a promise as much as it is our tradition.
