Barton Malow Builders’ K12 group joined Waterford School District (WSD) officials, community members, and students to celebrate the groundbreaking of the district’s new Stepanski Early Childhood Center on Friday, April 29. The early childhood education development is the first new construction build in Waterford School District in 55 years.
Part of WSD’s 2020 Bond Program, the 67,000-SF building – which will also boast an 88,000-SF outdoor play area for all accessibility levels – will feature 27 interchangeable classrooms, a large motor skills room, and a messy kitchen learning area. When complete in 2024, the center will have the capacity to house up to 600 students.
“Research has shown that a child’s experiences during these early years directly affect how the brain develops and, in particular, how those experiences have a long-term impact on the child’s health and ability to learn and succeed in school and in life,” WSD Superintendent Scott A. Lindberg said in a press release. “I’m proud that WSD is on the cutting-edge of early childhood education by constructing this state-of-the-art center and so grateful to our community for its support.”
