The transformation of Detroit’s skyline continues with the completion of the 12-story Hudson’s Detroit office building—an integral part of Bedrock Detroit’s larger Hudson’s development. Built by Barton Malow, the office component spans approximately 400,000 SF of the 600,000 SF building and sets a new standard for workplace design, functionality, and experience in the heart of downtown.
General Motors will be the anchor tenant with its new global headquarters, marking a significant moment for both the automaker and the city. The office spaces are designed to foster innovation and collaboration, featuring a seven-story atrium that begins on the fifth floor. Filled with natural light and live plants, the atrium is topped by a skylight inspired by the headlight cover of a 1954 Corvette.
Beyond the office workspace, the building offers a range of amenities like a lounge and pickleball court. This part of the Hudson’s Detroit development will also include retail space, a rooftop restaurant which will be open to the public, and The Department event venue.

Barton Malow broke ground on the site in 2017, after the former site of the J.L. Hudson Department Store sat vacant for more than two decades after anchoring Detroit’s retail and cultural scene for much of the 20th century.
An official grand opening for this part of Hudson’s Detroit is planned for late 2025. The tower portion of the development is slated for completion in 2027.
