In 2024, Barton Malow was awarded the project to fit-out of the sixth through eighth floors of the University of Virginia (UVA) Health South Tower. Since then, our team has spent the year in preconstruction planning to transform 114,000 gross SF into state-of-the-art care environments.
The new spaces are programmed as cell therapy on the sixth floor, acuity-adaptable beds on the seventh floor, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on the eighth floor. The project will add dozens of new beds and family-centered spaces to the hospital, including 47 additional beds in the NICU. This expansion will enable UVA Health to serve more patients closer to home, providing advanced care in a modern, healing environment.
On Thursday, August 28, UVA Health and Barton Malow team members welcomed media and members of the UVA Hospital staff to see mock-ups of the NICU rooms and receive an update on the project.
“We’re excited to partner with UVA Health on this renovation and help meet the critical care needs of the patients and the surrounding community,” said Barton Malow Project Executive Jim Miller.
The renovation is scheduled to be completed in January 2028.
