In the News: Penn State University’s Beaver Stadium Tops Out

With 750,000 work hours, 6,200 tons of steel, and nearly 12,000 cubic yards of concrete now in place, the Barton Malow-AECOM Hunt-Alexander tri-venture team has topped out Beaver Stadium’s 195-foot West Shore Home Field structure.

The Barton Malow-AECOM Hunt-Alexander tri-venture team has reached a major milestone on Penn State University’s Beaver Stadium revitalization project: the placement of the final beam atop the 195-foot structure, marking its maximum height and signaling the transition from one of the project’s most complex phases of construction.

To date, the team has logged more than 750,000 work hours, erected 6,200 tons of steel, and poured nearly 12,000 cubic yards of concrete. Penn State Athletics and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft joined the team on site to celebrate the topping out of the West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium Revitalization.

Demolition began following the 2024 season, with the removal of the press box, upper deck, and several ground-level structures. Work will continue through the 2026 football season, and Nittany Lions fans will see significant changes when they arrive in the fall, including expanded concourses, upgraded technology, new sports lighting, and more. The project is scheduled for full completion before the 2027 season.

The project is also making a meaningful economic impact in the region. Between 800 and 1,000 unique tradespeople will work the project each summer, with up to 400 on site daily at peak — generating an estimated $15 million in regional economic impact. In the first phase, 75% of materials and labor were sourced from Pennsylvania.

Penn State head football coach Matt Campbell recently visited the site to see the progress firsthand — a testament to the excitement building around what Beaver Stadium will become.
