Oakland Community College Culinary Studies Institute Wins 2026 AGC Build Michigan Award

Oakland Community College Culinary Studies Institute in Royal Oak, Michigan

The AGC of Michigan has recognized Oakland Community College’s Culinary Studies Institute as a 2026 Build Michigan award winner. Representatives from Barton Malow formally accepted the honor at the AGC of Michigan’s annual meeting on Friday, February 27. The firm also received the Cornerstone Award for Construction Training Excellence at the event.

The Culinary Studies Institute is a transformative 78,000 SF, three-story landmark in downtown Royal Oak, Michigan, and redefines culinary education in the region. Built by Barton Malow between October 2022 and August 2025, the project overcame tight urban site constraints and complex logistics to create five state-of-the-art teaching kitchens, a full-service public restaurant, retail space, and a central utility plant.

The Build Michigan Award was established in 1995 by the Professional Service Provider Member Council of the AGC of Michigan to recognize the excellence of an entire project team.
