Barton Malow Project Director Ryan Johnston has been named among Crain’s Grand Rapids’ 2025 “Notable Leaders in Sustainability,” an annual list that recognizes outstanding professionals in sustainability practices.
Honorees are selected by Crain’s editors and judged on their demonstrated leadership in advancing sustainable missions in their communities, implementing programs that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, minimizing landfill waste, and conserving water and electricity, setting the stage for a greener future.
With over 16 years in the construction industry, Ryan began at Barton Malow on the Stoney Corners Wind Farm in 2008 and now manages a team of over 50 professionals. Over the past five years, Ryan has led the Renewable Energy team in delivering over 2 gigawatts of renewable energy projects nationwide and securing a backlog exceeding $2 billion.
A defining achievement for Ryan was the successful commissioning of Michigan’s first utility-scale solar project for the state’s largest utility – an unprecedented milestone for clean energy in the region.
