Barton Malow Set to Deliver University of Virginia Data Science + Entrepreneurship Building

The five-story building will serve as a center for innovation and resources at UVA.

The University of Virginia (UVA) has selected Barton Malow to build the School of Data Science + Entrepreneurship Building in Charlottesville. The approximately 62,000 SF, five-story building will feature classrooms, laboratories, and advanced research spaces. The building is designed to promote collaboration between UVA’s School of Data Science and faculty across the university, enabling ideas to move smoothly from discovery to real-world application.

This building will connect researchers with commercialization resources, making it easier to turn research into products, services, and technologies that can have a real impact. It will also act as a “front door” to the University’s broader entrepreneurial program and serve as an initial point of access for faculty, students, alumni, investors, and community members.

“We’re proud to continue our partnership with the University of Virginia on the School of Data Science and Entrepreneurship Building,” says Barton Malow Senior Director Paul Littlefield. “This facility represents a meaningful investment in UVA’s future as a hub for innovation and collaboration, and we’re thrilled to work alongside the university to bring this vision to life.”

This award deepens a relationship between Barton Malow and the University of Virginia that spans more than 40 years, including the Harrison Family Olympic Sports Center, Hardie Football Operations Center, McCormick Road Houses, and Student Health and Wellness Center, among many others.

Construction is slated to begin in Q1 2027, with expected completion in Q2 2029.
