At Barton Malow, we’re intentional about building a culture where every team member can learn, grow, and lead. Our Women in Tech (WiT) group is one way we bring that commitment to life—creating space for women in construction technology to connect, innovate, and build career pathways in a rapidly evolving field.
A Community for Women in Construction Technology
What began five years ago as a small circle of women interested in technology has grown into a vibrant, cross‑functional community. Today, nearly 50 members from areas like Application Development, VDC, Project Delivery, MARCOM, Scheduling, and more come together to share ideas, explore emerging tools, and learn from one another’s experiences.
Cross-Department Collaboration in Construction Technology
That cross‑department collaboration is intentional. Technology touches almost every aspect of our work, and the WiT group makes it easier for team members to build relationships, compare approaches, and spark new thinking across the enterprise. It’s one more way we put our cultural beliefs—Respect for People, Innovate with Purpose, and Built to Learn—into practice.
What the Women in Tech Group Does
The Women in Tech group meets monthly, offering a mix of formats that encourage learning, connection, and exploration. While topics evolve based on member interests, sessions often include:
- About Me presentations to help members get to know each other personally and professionally.
- Discussions on articles, podcasts, or workplace trends that shape the tech landscape.
- Show‑and‑Tell sessions focused on new tools, innovations, or technology discoveries.
- Book clubs centered on leadership, communication, or emerging tech.
- Project case studies highlighting innovative or complex work happening across Barton Malow.
- Skill‑building workshops including presentation skills, career navigation, performance review preparation, and self‑advocacy.
The group also plans periodic in‑person meetups to help deepen community beyond the virtual space.
How the WiT Group Supports Career Growth in Tech Roles
WiT provides more than professional development—it helps create an environment where women in technology feel seen, supported, and empowered to shape their careers. It offers real opportunities for mentorship and connection, especially for those who may be the only woman in their immediate team or project.
As Barton Malow continues to lead with innovation, this group reinforces the belief that great ideas come from diverse perspectives and that everyone benefits when team members feel encouraged to contribute fully.
