Savings Time

Providing construction management services for ALL 13 District buildings (sometimes concurrently), Barton Malow completed $80 million of work in a 15-month period, opening three buildings 6-months ahead of schedule. Total managed savings to the district exceeded $750,000!

Groves and Seaholm High Schools each had a new Natatorium built with 25-meter competition pools. At Groves, the gymnasium was renovated and includes new lighting, wood flooring, and bleachers. The old lap pool was also filled and renovated into a space for a future fitness center. Seaholm received a new gymnasium with new locker rooms and bleachers.

Berkshire, Derby, and Covington Middle Schools, received renovations and additions. Projects included classroom renovations, ceilings, lighting, casework, window replacements, painting, and ventilator replacement. Locker rooms were renovated at Derby along with the swimming pool areas, and also received a new music room and renovations to the administration area. A new administrative and main building entry was completed at Covington Middle School.

Four replacement elementary schools (approximately 60,000 SF each) were built - Harlan, Greenfield, Pembroke, and Beverly Elementary Schools. Existing schools were demolished, with the exception of their media centers, which were retained and incorporated into the design of the new buildings. Pembroke, Greenfield, and Beverly required phased construction with a portion of each school remaining operational while construction proceeded in other areas of the facilities.

Additions and renovations were performed at Pierce, Quarton, West Maple, and Bingham Farms Elementary Schools. Projects for all four schools included classroom renovations, new ceilings, lighting, casework, and painting. Pierce had a total locker replacement, a new computer room, and a new music room built within the existing courtyard. Quarton had a complete heating and cooling system replacement, new ductwork, and zoned climate control system with new hot water boilers. Additionally, Quarton received a new cafeteria and kitchen facilities. At Bingham Farms, a new cafeteria addition was completed. West Maple received four new classrooms in addition to the other upgrades.
