ENR Midwest Overall Project of the Year: The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum

Southfield, MI –– Barton Malow is pleased to announce that The Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University has been named ENR Midwest’s Project of the Year. The ENR Midwest's Best Projects competition is an annual program recognizing outstanding design and construction in a variety of categories. A panel of industry professionals selected winning projects on the basis of quality, innovation, safety, contributions to the surrounding community and the ability of the project teams to overcome unique challenges.

Barton Malow served as the construction manager for the iconic art museum designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, known for the “unbuildable” building. Located at Michigan State University, the new Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum pushes architectural boundaries and challenges conventional construction. Constructed of sloped steel and concrete with a pleated metal and glass exterior, carefully piecing together dynamic dimensions and non-traditional materials challenged the team from the very beginning. Atypical building techniques were a part of everyday construction.

With extreme expectations of quality, the highest levels of communication and craftsmanship were required to overcome these challenges. The successful outcome was truly a team effort. To hear how the team completed this extraordinary project, please view our feature video of the Broad Art Museum on our YouTube channel.
