Oakland University and Barton Malow Break Ground on Elliott Carillon Tower
Southfield, MI –– April 25, 2013— Barton Malow Company is pleased to announce that Oakland University of Rochester, Michigan has selected Barton Malow as the construction manager for the new Elliott Carillon Tower. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 19th for the 49-bell tower, which is scheduled for completion in 2014.
The new 151-foot carillon bell tower will be the centerpiece for the OU campus and is a gift to the University from Hugh and Nancy Elliott. “We wanted this bell tower to make a statement, and to be a focus and meeting place on the campus,” said Nancy Elliott.
Gary Russi, Oakland University president said, “This will enable Oakland University to join the ranks of prestigious universities across the globe that have honored a centuries-old tradition of a carillon tower on campus.”
The Elliott Carillom Tower will be one of the tallest carillon towers on a college campus in the United States. The tower is designed by Niagara Murano Architects of Birmingham, MI. The bells and clock-related equipment will be manufactured the Royal Bell-foundry Petit & Fritsen, Netherlands, and the Verdin Company, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
