Barton Malow to Build Rymfire Addition

Jacksonville, FL – July 30, 2008 — Flagler County Public Schools has awarded Barton Malow Company a $14 million contract to build the Rymfire School 6-8 Addition. Construction is on an accelerated schedule, with ground-breaking scheduled for July 2008 and completion for July 2009.

The project, 90,000 square feet of tilt-wall construction, includes a classroom building, gymnasium and music building, media-center addition and central receiving building. Sitework includes a parking lot and storm water retention-pond expansion.

Tilt-wall is a streamlined building technique – casting concrete wall panels on a horizontal surface, tilting them into place, and connecting them to roof and floor systems – that speeds construction and results in a strong, durable structure. Equipped with full stand by electrical generator capacity, 2000-gallon emergency water tank. and high-impact shuttered windows, the tilt-wall facility can serve as an emergency hurricane shelter, able to withstand 160 mph wind and debris.

This is Barton Malow’s third project for the district and the third time working with architect Paul Stresing Associates. In 2006, Barton Malow completed the original Rymfire campus, also using tilt-wall construction.
