Barton Malow Breaks Ground on University of Maryland Health Sciences Facility Phase III

Baltimore, MD — September 24, 2013 — Barton Malow is pleased to announce the groundbreaking for the University of Maryland Health Sciences Facility Phase III (HSF III). A groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 17 for the new facility, which is scheduled to open in Fall 2017. Barton Malow Company will serve as the construction manager, and HOK/DCI will serve as Project Architect.

The Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy will occupy the new 10-story, 428,970-square-foot facility. The building will be located among the existing facilities of the three schools on a site currently occupied by Hayden-Harris Hall (the old School of Dentistry), allowing maximum sharing of resources and interactions between the three schools. The project includes demolition of Hayden-Harris Hall.

The location of the HSF III building provides the ability for the schools to maintain and advance their positions as academic and research leaders in their respective disciplines. As the nature of biomedical research becomes increasingly interdisciplinary, HSF III will serve another critical function by providing space for collaborative projects and shared research programs among the three schools.

“We are very excited to have celebrated this important day with the University of Maryland and the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy,” said Bob Grottenthaler, Vice President, Barton Malow Company. “We look forward to collaborating with the University and the entire project team throughout construction to deliver a state-of-the art health sciences facility.”
