“Danielle

NAME: DANIELLE MCCANN
CURRENT ROLE: COST ANALYST
CURRENT LOCATION: EASTERN REGION / BALTIMORE OFFICE
YEARS IN THE INDUSTRY: 14

What led you to a career in the construction industry?

I was attracted to construction because it is such a dynamic industry and you can see immediate results from your hard work. Each day brings something new, and throughout my career I have been fortunate to have experienced different roles from Project Engineer to Cost Analyst which has given me an opportunity to really expand my skillset.

What are some of the biggest challenges of being a woman working in construction?

Unfortunately in every industry I think there is still some room for improvement when it comes to women being compensated and viewed as equals. But I have found that if you work hard and produce quality work, the right people always take notice.

What do you love most about your career?

I love that you can really make what you want out of your career – your skills make it happen. The direct supervisors that I've had throughout my time at Barton Malow have always empowered me to be my best self, and have provided me with the tools to really develop the path that I am on.

What advice would you give a woman starting out in the industry?

Believe in yourself, work hard, have confidence in your work, and know that you can accomplish anything.

I always have loved the following quote, "Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels."
