Barton Malow Canada’s 81 MWDC Scotford solar project powers a top global oil producer’s refinery complex, supporting the company in achieving its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Located in Alberta’s industrial heartland, the project is the first large-scale solar installation in the region.
The project contributes approximately $200,000 yearly on a levelized basis to the Strathcona County local government and school system while requiring little to no county services in return. A 4 km distribution pole line was required to interconnect to the Shell Scotford facility at 25 kV.
The Scotford solar project is one of Canada’s largest behind-the-meter solar projects, and its output offsets one-fifth of the refinery’s energy demands.
