Barton Malow Canada’s 81 MWDC Scotford solar project will power a top global oil producer’s refinery complex to support the company in achieving its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Located in Alberta’s industrial heartland, the project is the first large-scale solar installation in the region.
Once operational, the project is expected to contribute approximately $200,000 a year on a levelized basis to the Strathcona County local government and school system while requiring little to no county services in return. The project required a 4 km distribution pole line to interconnect to the Shell Scotford facility at 25 kV.
Once complete, the project will be Canada’s largest behind-the-meter solar project, and its output will offset one-fifth of the refinery’s energy demands.
