Barton Malow Breaks Ground on Facility for Rare Isotope Breams (FRIB) At Michigan State University

Lansing, MI –– March 17, 2014 — Barton Malow is pleased to announce the groundbreaking for the Facility for Rare Isotope Breams (FRIB) at Michigan State University. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 17 for the new facility, which is scheduled to open in 2022. Barton Malow Company will serve as the construction manager, and SmithGroup JJR will serve as Project Architect.

The FRIB will be a state-of-the-art national user facility allowing researchers to pursue scientific breakthroughs by creating and studying elements that do not normally occur naturally on Earth. Studying these rare materials, which often exist for only a fraction of a second, can help scientists advance scientific research in many fields, including how to use isotopes to improve medical imaging and the treatment of cancer.

“We are incredibly excited to break ground on the FRIB which will create thousands of jobs in the State of Michigan,” said Ryan Maibach, President, Barton Malow Company. “We look forward to collaborating with the University and the entire project team throughout construction to deliver a state-of-the science and research facility.”
