Lancaster Medical Center Earns 2023 MidAtlantic Award of Merit

Lancaster Medical Center’s sister project – Hampden Medical Center – also earned ENR MidAtlantic honors in 2021, making for two Penn State Health award-winning healthcare projects.

ENR MidAtlantic has awarded the Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center an Award of Merit in the Health Care category as part of its 2023 Regional Best Projects competition.

A Barton Malow-Alexander joint venture, the Lancaster Medical Center is a 355,000-SF acute care facility with 129 private patient beds, an Emergency Department, physician offices, specialty inpatient services, an imaging lab, and medical and surgical capabilities. An adjacent 60,000-SF two-story medical office building, 300-space parking garage, central utility plant, and two additional catheterization labs were also part of the project. HKS served as the architect of the award-winning healthcare project.

The project broke ground in February 2020 – just six months after the award – and reached substantial completion in 28 months. It was completed under budget and on schedule – with the bulk of construction taking place amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center, a sister hospital to the Lancaster Medical Center and another Barton Malow-Alexander project, earned a 2021 ENR MidAtlantic Best Project Award.
