BlueOval SK Battery Park Kentucky GE2 Plant Earns 2025 TAUC Project of the Year

The Project of the Year award recognizes outstanding work performed under labor management cooperation.

Barton Malow has been honored with The Association of Union Constructors’ (TAUC) Joseph R. La Rocca Project of the Year Award for its work on the BlueOval SK Battery Park Kentucky GE2 Plant in Glendale, Kentucky, in the “Above $50 Million” category. The award recognizes outstanding work performed under labor-management cooperation, specifically pertaining to collaboration and teamwork, quality and craftsmanship, execution, and safety.

Barton Malow team members formally accepted the honor on Thursday, May 15, at TAUC’s annual Construction Leadership Conference in Isle of Palms, South Carolina.

As the design-build contractor, Barton Malow partnered with Kentucky-based Gray Construction to build the plant. The 43-GW capacity, 3.9 million SF lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility powers the next generation of Ford and Lincoln electric vehicles. The battery park is a joint venture between Ford and SK On, a battery manufacturer and subsidiary of South Korean-based SK Innovation.

The project, located on 825 acres of build area, measures about three-quarters of a mile in length and includes 1.8 million SF of cleanroom space on the first two floors. Barton Malow teams moved 4.3 million CY of soil, erected more than 40,000 tons of steel, and had more than 3,500 craft workers from 40 different states on site at peak. The project broke ground in 2022 and was completed in October 2024.
