Tennessee Concrete Association Names Barton Malow Company ‘Grand Champion in Concrete Excellence’

The Tennessee Concrete Association (TCA) has honored Barton Malow Company for its work on the Ultium Cells battery cell manufacturing plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, with three awards: Sustainable Concrete, Best Finishing, and the Grand Champion Award of 2023. The latter award will be featured on the cover of TCA’s magazine — a testament to the superior quality of Barton Malow Company’s work and its steadfast commitment to sustainability.

These are not the first awards Barton Malow Company has received for the Spring Hill Ultium Cells Plant. In November 2022, the National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee, Inc. (NMAPC) awarded Barton Malow Company the Bronze Star for logging more than 200,000 safe work hours on the project.

Ultium Cells, a joint venture between General Motors (GM) and LG Energy Solution (LGES), will mass-produce Ultium battery cells at the facility. GM and LGES are investing $2.3 billion in the facility to support U.S. electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, local jobs, education, career training, and infrastructure. Ironworkers and construction partners at the 2.8-million-SF facility marked a construction milestone with the final beam installation in June 2022.

The Ultium Cells Spring Hill site joins other Ultium Cells battery cell manufacturing sites in Ohio and Michigan. Its facility in Lansing, Michigan, is under construction and will start production in Q3 2024.
