Holland Energy Park Team Break Ground on Holland Energy Park

Southfield, MI –– The greater Holland community celebrated the commencement of major construction with the groundbreaking of the Holland Energy Plant on April 21st, 2015.  Barton Malow will serve as EPC Contractor for the new 145-megawatt combined cycle natural gas plant for the city of Holland, located on a 26-acre site at 5th St. and Fairbanks Avenue.  The energy park is designed to be a natural, park-like setting complete with walking paths, a waterfall and extensive natural greenery and wildflowers. The new plant will replace the outdated coal-burning James DeYoung plant.

With construction set to begin next month, the energy park is slated for substantial completion by 2017 and will feature a bold, modern design that creates an eastern gateway to the city.  Upon completion the energy plant will double the fuel efficiency of Holland’s present power generation, attain a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions and will expand on Holland’s innovative snowmelt system and, potentially, district heating.

“We understand working in the great State of Michigan, we understand the local community, and we are committed to the city and community of Holland,” said Chuck Binkowski, Senior Vice President. “Our number one goal on the Holland Energy Park project is safety. We want everyone on the jobsite to return home the same way they arrived to the jobsite. Along with keeping our people safe, we understand the importance of a positive community impact and providing a good experience for the people that live and work in the community that surrounds the project.”
