Barton Malow Projects Win USGBC Virginia 2020 Community Leader Awards

Last week, the USGBC Virginia hosted its annual awards program virtually to announce its Leadership Award winners. Among the eight winning projects, all four Barton Malow projects that were nominated came away with a win. The awards recognize outstanding people and projects leading the way to a greener future for all in Virginia and include the following categories:

  • Virginia Environments
  • Historical Renovation
  • Innovative Design, New Construction – K12 Schools
  • Innovative Design, New Construction – Higher Education
  • Innovative Design, New Construction – Commercial Office
  • Community Champion
  • Green Building Legacy
  • People’s Choice
  • Green Leader – Organization
  • Green Leader – Volunteer

The renovation of the University of Virginia’s New Cabell Hall (LEED Gold) won both the Green Building Legacy category and was part of a three-way tie that won the People’s Choice Award, which was chosen by popular vote among the event’s attendees. Also part of the People’s Choice three-way tie was the Consolidated Science Research Facility (Davis Hall) at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (LEED Gold). Bonnycastle (LEED Silver) and Kent/Dabney (LEED Gold), both part of the McCormick Road Houses Renovation project, aptly tied to win in the Innovative Design, New Construction – Higher Education category to round out the wins.
