Director of Community Engagement Dannis Mitchell Recognized in Crain’s Detroit Notable Women in Construction List

Crain’s Detroit Business has named Barton Malow Builders Director of Community Engagement Dannis Mitchell to its 2022 Notable Women in Construction, Design, and Architecture list. As one of the youngest members of Barton Malow’s leadership team, Dannis has spearheaded several impactful workforce development initiatives that reflect the enterprise’s core values, including the Barton Malow Boot Camp and the Motor City Contractor Fund.

Crain’s Notable Women in Construction list pays homage to women that have “quite literally shaped the world we live in.” A team of Crain’s Detroit Business editors selected the featured women “based on their career accomplishments, track record of success in the field, and effectiveness of their efforts.”

Dannis’ community involvement includes service as co-chair of the Commercial Real Estate Women Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee and board membership on the Detroit Employment Solutions Corp., East Jefferson Development Co., and Council of Supplier Diversity Professionals.

“Dannis continuously supports team members in every Barton Malow office around the country by striving to build relationships with clients, get involved in local organizations, and support the pursuit process,” said Ritu Sandhu, Barton Malow Builders Director of Marketing + Communications, in a quote provided to Crain’s Detroit Business.

Dannis’ Impact at Barton Malow

Dannis made a splash at Barton Malow early on in her tenure with the company and continues to grow in her role leading Barton Malow’s renowned community engagement programs.

She was at the forefront of the development of the Barton Malow Boot Camp, a six-week pre-apprenticeship program that provides an opportunity for Detroit and Pontiac residents between the ages of 18-24 to learn industry fundamentals necessary for a career in the skilled trades.

She also served as the lead Barton Malow representative throughout the creation of The Motor City Contractor Fund. The Motor City Contractor Fund is a partnership between Barton Malow Builders, the Rocket Community Fund, Community Reinvestment Fund, USA, and Invest Detroit that removes barriers and provides the Detroit-based contractor ecosystem with a suite of services to help grow its capacity to succeed.

Dannis was recognized by Crain’s Detroit as a 40 Under 40 honoree in 2017. She has also received the Michigan Chronicle’s Women of Excellence and 40 Under 40 awards.
